Article supporting the use of Alexander Technique Teaching for patients with chronic and recurrent back pain

This interesting article uses a randomised clinical trial to demonstrate the effectiveness of Alexander technique teaching compared to massage and doctor prescribed exercise prescription.

The research was conducted in 64 GP practices across the UK and involved 579 patients who were given 24 Alexander lessons (though interestingly a major improvement happened after 6 treatments!). No harm came to any of the 144 patients who received Alexander Technique and quality of life, and number of days with back pain both significantly reduced with the lessons.

The conclusion showed that one to one lessons from a registered teacher like Leah Wrght has long term benefits for patients with chronic back pain.

Although Leah sees a wide range of pupils (or patients) it’s nice to see a peer reviewed article like this one appearing in the BMJ.
